Okay, so unit one contains basically two topics first one is all headings and introduction about organisational behaviour and the second one is global and cultural diversity in reference to organisational behaviour.

Moving on to our first heading😌👇

Organisational behaviour

"Organisational behaviour means the study of understanding, predicting and controlling human behaviour at work."

It is basically a field of study which is devoted to understanding the individual and group behaviour of the employees working in any organisation.

Nature of organisational behaviour

1. Fundamental part of management

2. Multi-disciplinary approach

Which means it studies psychology, sociology and anthropology of any individual employee or a group of employees.

3. Normative science

Which means applying the result of studies on the employees in reference to their behaviours in such a way that it is the most compatible or suitable solution.

4. It is a Science as well as an Art

5. It requires humanistic and optimistic approach 

Which means that humanity and optimism should always be considered before applying the studied employee behaviour.

6. It focuses towards the organisational objectives

7. A total system approach

Which means it studies the wholesome behaviour of individual employees, group of a employees and of the whole organisation.

Scope of organisational behaviour (OB)

Skill development 

As if, to understand someone's behaviour it requires a lot of good communication skills and analysing power 

Personal growth through insight into human behaviours

Understanding someone's behaviour strengthens your relationship with them which gradually leads to personal growth.

Improvement of organisational and individual effectiveness

Good employee relationships lead to the best possible effectiveness of an organisation .

Sharpening and refining of common sense

OB is a normative science which means applying the most suitable and compatible method to get your work done and this process refines the common sense of a managers.

Models of OB


There have been mainly 4 models of organisational behaviour which are described under with their characteristics :

1. Autocratic model

This model is basically management dependent and power based.

Features : 

Only management decides what is right or wrong.
It is completely power based/centralised.
Formal by nature.
Employees should be order obedient.

Custodial model

This model basically focuses on employee satisfaction, security and welfare.

Features :

It is completely resource based.
The prime focus is on salary payment and monetary benefits to employees.
Employees are organisation dependent. 
Employees also focus on rewards and benefits only.

Supportive model 

This model focuses on getting the work done through the help of best possible leadership techniques.

Features :

Leadership based.
Leaders supports employees.
Always an increased participation of employees. 
Strongly motivated employees.

Collegial model 

This model basically refers to a group of people who have common goal.

Features :

Teamwork and employee cooperation based.
Employees are satisfied and responsible.

Levels of OB

Organisational behaviour mainly deals with understanding, anticipating and controlling the behaviour at 3 different levels.

Individual level

It is the key part of any behavioral study and this is also known as "micro-organisational behaviour", which basically deals with the complete study of an individual at the work place.

Group level

Individuals usually connect with each other and form a group, so the study of behavioural patterns of these groups in an organisation is also known as "Meso-organisational behaviour". 

Organisation level 

All the individuals as well as groups of individuals formed within an organisation are when studied, then it is known as "macro organisational behaviour".

Determinants of OB 

1. People (the internal social system of an organisation)

2. Structure (the hierarchy of roles, authorities and responsibilities in an organisation)

3. Technology

4. Environment (the internal and external business environment)

Contributing discipline to OB

NOTE : This is also an explanation of point number 2 in the heading "Nature of OB".

Psychology

It is a behavioural science which studies the human behaviour in some specific conditions.

Medicine

It is an application of science used to cure chronic and acute diseases.

Sociology

It is the social science of human behaviour. 

Social psychology

It is the study of human behaviour in reference to their social background.

Anthropology

It is an applied science used to study the behaviour of humans belonging to different cultures and demographics.

Political science

It is but obviously the study of politics in different demographics.

Industrial engineering

It is the applied science to study the whole working mechanism of different types of industries.

Economics

But obviously it is the study of economic environment which includes money, resources, etc.
